International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
The International English Language Testing System (IELTS test) is more and more widely recognised as the authoritative test of language skills. If you are planning to move to Britain, Australia or New Zealand you may well be asked to take it. Many universities will not consider your application these days without an acceptable IELTS score.

The British Council Examinations Services in Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, Multan and Quetta offer full testing facilities on a regular basis. It is not necessary to attend a preparation course though it is a good idea to prepare thoroughly beforehand.

All candidates are tested in listening, reading, writing and speaking. Everyone takes the same listening and speaking test but the reading and writing tests vary according to the module.

We recommend that you study the IELTS Handbook which can be downloaded from the IELTS web site www.ielts.org.

The IELTS Specimen Material pack, which includes two booklets, a CD and sample answers, is also available from Examinations Services at Rs 850 a pack. These materials have been produced according to the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate (UCLES) Question Paper Production cycle.

Candidates residing in cities where there is a British Council office can deposit the IELTS Specimen Material pack fee in the respective British Council bank account. Outstation candidates can forward a bank draft drawn in favour of the appropriate British Council office.

The British Council Examinations Services will send the IELTS Specimen pack to the candidate by courier on receipt of a stamped bank deposit slip of Rs 850 or a bank draft of the same amount.

To register for IELTS follow these five simple steps
