Membership Rules and Regulations, Lahore

Membership of the British Council Library is open to everyone and there are various membership categories to choose from.

To become a member you must complete an application form available at the library circulation desk. Students under 18 years of age must obtain a guarantor’s signature / stamp on the membership form as well.

The British Council reserves the right to refuse membership or renewals at its discretion.

Rules and Regulations

Borrowing
A computerised membership card is issued to each member. Books and videos may be borrowed against this card according to your membership status.

Each membership category entitles you to borrow a certain number of books for a certain period of time. The loan period may be extended either in person or on telephone, provided the materials concerned are not required by other members and are not overdue.

Overdue materials
Books and videos must be returned or renewed within the period of loan, otherwise fines of Rs 3 per book per day and Rs 20 per video per day will be charged. Keeping borrowed materials overdue persistently will result in borrowing privileges being withheld. The membership of any member who fails to return borrowed material in time (or pay for it in case it has been lost) will be cancelled.

Duplicate Card
Members are asked to take great care of their membership card as they will be held responsible for all books borrowed on their card. A duplicate card may be issued at the discretion of the Library Manager if the original has been lost at a charge of Rs 150. The membership card is non-transferable and it is a condition of loan that any book lost or damaged must be paid for, as assessed by the Library Manager.

Reservation
Any book or video in stock may be reserved on payment of Rs 35. If the material belongs to one of our other libraries in Pakistan, an additional fee of Rs 40 will be charged for courier expenses. You will be notified when the book is available.

Loss or damage
We reserve the right to charge members up to the full cost of replacement of materials borrowed (as assessed by the British Council) in the case of loss or damage, whether deliberate, accidental or through negligence.
